Stephen Cannon, FRCS

Clinical Advisor and Chairman of
Business Advisory Board

Stephen is a Past President of the British Orthopaedic Association and Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons, and since 1987 has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London. He is a committee member of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) and a Reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Annals of Surgery.

Since 1995, Stephen has worked in elective orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic oncology as well as primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. His research interests include prosthetics in limb salvage, particularly in relation to pelvic sarcoma surgery.

Stephen qualified in Medicine from Trinity College Cambridge, and Middlesex Hospital Medical School.

Professor Gordon Blunn

Scientific Advisor

Gordon is Head of the John Scales Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science at University College London. Internationally recognised as one of the top academics in his field, Gordon has extensive experience in orthopaedic medical devices, materials and musculoskeletal tissues, and has led many successful research projects funded by government bodies and orthopaedic companies.

His principal research interests include anti-microbial coatings for prostheses to prevent infection, fixation of implants to the skeleton, and material properties associated with joint replacements.

He has published several renowned papers on silver as a biocidal agent.

Dr Ameet Bakhai

Advisor on Cardiology

Ameet is a Consultant Cardiologist for the Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust and the Royal Free NHS Trust. His clinical interests include acute cardiology presentations such as angina and myocardial infarctions, and his research expertise is in the evaluation of clinical and cost effectiveness of cardiovascular therapies and disease prevention. He has conducted clinical research on anti-platelet agents and coronary drug eluting stents at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, Harvard Clinical Research Institute and Royal Brompton Hospitals in Boston and London.

Ameet has 15 years experience in general medicine and cardiology, training at St Bartholomew’s, St Mary’s, Royal Brompton, Royal London and Royal Free Hospitals. He has published over 50 peer reviewed papers, co-authored a book on understanding clinical trials, and is a member of several panels for the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). He is also a Principal Investigator of an International Registry, Recruiting Investigator in several multi-centre clinical trials
and a reviewer for numerous journals as well as an advisor to a variety of health care partners for
therapy development programmes and health economic modelling.

Laurie Rostron

Business Advisor

Laurie is an experienced Non-Executive Chairman/Director of small to medium size companies operating in the healthcare/medical device industry and an advisor to venture capital partnerships. He was previously a partner at Alta Berkeley Associates, focused on healthcare investments following senior management roles in BOC Healthcare, GD Searle and Johnson & Johnson.
